The first step on a new project
Original post on LinkedInWhen a new project lands, whether it is a whole app, a single feature, or a set of features, the first step is understanding the problem or the need in depth. That stage is the foundation of any good design, because it gives you the ground to make decisions from understanding rather than from guessing.
1. Define the goal
What is the project actually trying to achieve? Is it improving an existing experience, or solving a specific problem? This is where you ask the questions that build a clear picture of what the project or feature requires.
2. Understand the users
Who are the target users, and what challenges do they face? You gather and analyse what you can about them so the solution matches their real needs, whether the project is an entire app or a small feature.
3. Connect it to the product vision
Any feature has to line up with the wider vision for the product. Tying the project back to the company’s goals and to the overall experience keeps it on the right track and gets the most out of it.
Together, these three prevent the most common mistake: drawing screens before you know what you are solving, for whom, and why it matters to the business.
